Tomorrow will be your first day of school. At a local kindergarten near where we live.
I remember the very next day after you were born, I had to rush off to Court, leaving you and Mommy at the hospital, to represent a group mentally-disabled children. In that case, we fought for their educational rights, in a set of judicial review proceedings against the Secretary of Education.
This year is the last summer that you have before starting school proper. Daddy has been busy working on his LegCo election campaign. This means I have much less time for you than would have wished. Hopefully now that Mommy can be with you more, this helps to make up for it on my behalf. As part of my election campaign, I hope to fight for the protection of our Core Values in Hong Kong. So that they would be able to live on for your generation.
As your father, I want for you education that provides a well-rounded foundation upon which you can learn to discern.
The Government is now trying to impose national education on our local schools. This involves a curriculum which I, as your parent, do not think is either right nor necessary in this day and age. If it proceeds, in a few years time, you too will be subject to this. I will try my best to make sure this does not happen. This is my promise to you.
Have a great day at school tomorrow. I have trust in God and our teachers.
Love and God Bless.
